Schedule Spotlight: Trauma-informed yoga

Registration for the 2025 Berkshire Yoga Festival is now open! With over 200 sessions to choose from, there is something for everyone!

With the growing body of research demonstrating the therapeutic benefits of yoga, “trauma-informed” yoga draws on “neuroscience, developmental psychology, and interpersonal neurobiology”. Trauma-informed yoga uses this understanding to create a safe space to introduce mind-body practices for those who have experienced trauma.

This year the festival will feature three nonprofit leaders whose work is bringing trauma-informed yoga practice into the community.

Jeannie O’Neil of Yoga Farm Ithaca

Jeannie has a passion and purpose to hold space for others on transformational journeys. She is the Executive Director of Yoga Farm Ithaca, a nonprofit whose vision is to “is to build sustainable and trauma-informed community hubs”. In addition to guiding two Intensives, Jeannie will be offering two Trauma-Informed Kundalini classes at the festival.

Nikki Myers of Y12SR

An accomplished speaker and teacher, Nikki is an MBA, E-RYT500, Yoga Therapist, Somatic Experiencing Practitioner, Addictions Recovery Specialist, and Ayurvedic Specialist and is the founder of Y12SR: Yoga of 12-Step Recovery.

Well experienced how somatic yoga practices benefit those who have experienced trauma, her sessions and lectures are both insightful and inspirational.

Lauren Turner of Warrior Within Yoga Project

Lauren is the Founder & Executive Director of Warrior Within Yoga Project. The nonprofit provides trauma-informed yoga to veterans and first responders throughout Massachusetts.

She will be leading a workshop Trauma-Informed Strategies for Public Group Classes for yoga teachers interested in learning more about trauma-informed techniques.
